My name is RJ Armbruster, and at the end of 2007 I decided to start my own business. I know what you’re thinking: “The beginning of the ‘economic crisis’?! You must be crazy!” I graduated at the top of my class from the Ocean County Vocational Technical School in 1998 with a degree in Telecommunications. There was an opportunity presented before me to work for Verizon. I did not want to be just another number so I started looking for other options. I found a job exactly 1 month after graduating from vo-tech, which was also when I graduated high school. I learned so much in that first company for the two years I was employed. The company was organized into the union. I was with the union for 8 years where I became a foreman at the age of 23 overseeing other workers. Although I didn’t know it at the time, these opportunities helped prepare me for the future task of starting my own business. I was always asked by my peers why I didn’t start my own company, as they felt I had what it took. I always felt I wasn’t ready because I didn’t have a client base established. In 2007 I had an opportunity to start my own business. My first client was Target. I took that opportunity and ran with it. That first job was stressful and we didn’t make much money, but Target was so impressed with the way we helped and served them we were asked to do a brand new store later that year. This led to the remodel of 38 target stores throughout New Jersey.
